Gurdjieff – the enigmatic guru sufi

Gurdjieff – Myth or prophet?

Master controversy without cause.

Michael Mifsud. 2009

I was only sixteen at the time and super brain, the Head Grammar School Boy in Gibraltar simply push the book in my hands. I often wonder what he saw made him do it, but it would change the course of my life. Recently out of the CME and a lifetime of first form and religion, I guess I was a little above the crowd, but I was about to realize that the nature of life does not depend on the number of subjects who had under his belt. In fact, things started to go wrong from that moment, as my passion for reading is not affected throughout the entire course of my life, my emotions were starting to tell me that I had no idea what I wanted or where he went. I definitely have become a scholar permanent – if my parents had had the money, of course, but it was a question of that. The child's head, Edwin Yeats disappeared into the air and exit at Oxford to become a gift, I think, but apart from not knowing what was the difference between that and Cambridge, I found I could never make my mind fast enough and usually ended with two or more of all, fear ruled out either. The people however, full of fear my mental screen. Each and every one of which was larger than life. Every detail of their personalities and unspoken thoughts and threw me in court or filed a wall, despite the years never were, unfortunately for download. My sensitivity seems to have been exaggerated and for most, too intense. In the early days, however, found its way in the curiosity and discovery. Despite the pains of everyday life and in particular the break with loved ones, the horizon beckoned with the mystery and attraction of reducing everything to insignificance. The bobsleigh would fund its own accord or sole with an unforeseen disruption but it would take many layers of discouragement and many years of hard earned experience of human nature I stop in my quest for knowledge that would make me yet.

I was considered a rare child. I just had to look at someone and see an entity complex than I wanted to understand from all angles of view. I reached out with the simplicity that either put people at ease instant or bottled up sustained in the defense. He put most of the people and threatened to make me a hermit. When it did work however, the look in his eyes told me I had made to feel that was where I wanted to be. In any case, my contribution to the school magazine at fifteen had caused a stir. I had gone through a variety of sources and managed to write an amazing article, very much I kept doing it for decades later. Would be embarrassing, because none of my competitors accepted his responsibility. They insisted that I had plagiarized one or more, although the teachers trying to make them understand that while others and illustrate a point was an important and valid way of writing. For me, "the cat sat on the carpet" style of writing had come to an end and multi- layered forms of expression designed to provoke thought and action in the reader like a better use of the medium. "Why write so much," some fifty years after the event I understand the fear of the idea that I was doing things that they were not trained to do. had me fooled. I had broken the mold and I went to pay the price forever.

The dawn of emotional awareness

My favorite teacher and mentor was everyone's pet hate, but I could see that somehow felt that I was a product of their aspirations and perhaps he was right. Brother of energy-an Irish Christian Brother, was a little man most common fear but once caught a glimpse of his soul and as Gurdjieff and his traveling companion, he felt the sinking feeling of loss when our separate ways. I asked about him throughout his life of his colleagues every time you crossed my path, but I never see him again. It had become a player apparently golf competition, but then as a science teacher probably knew all the angles and the weight of each shot, in a glance. I always came up top with their own well-defined topics such as chemistry, geometry, physics, etc, but the funny thing was that I began to fail in the knowledge that made sense to me. dates in history, for example, British politicians called puppets young and old and as figures like Walpole, evoking images and Mr.Pickwick Welsh singer Harry Secombe. People and first impressions began to change my sense of presence and form of my own nature. Something was happening in those early years, and no one seemed interested in what he would do next. The lack of teachers, was the excuse given. I felt terrible emptiness as a disposable cloth. I also I felt a gap between me and the university, which attracted me, but from what I felt, was not in itself significant enough to consider it as a primary objective. Advanced Placement courses are required, and despite their production in the United Kingdom, the feeling that I had to justify my choice to everyone, including my my family who needed extra help end this aspiration. Teachers, in their wisdom, had previously left me on the local cable and wireless station with the forlorn hope that he would take his engineering degree and crown all school grades. I felt betrayed, but something had happened already – which had entered in a world of self-consciousness that the book gave me support Edwin indelible. The search engine was born. I caught a lift to the legendary London a few thousand miles away and my life began

The Revelation of the British surgeon

Edwin book was called "Diagnosis of man" and was written by a British surgeon, Sir Kenneth Walker "Apparently, he was a Sufi disciple of George Gurdjieff and although the thoroughness of the man who wrote about swimming before my eyes, something extraordinary happened. I read between the lines of the book that I could barely understand, but the road ahead shone clear that until now, I realize, was unusually clear. I felt I personally knew Gurdjieff and I would argue in eventually he and his teachings as if I had been a close disciple. I also read Ouspensky, the brilliant mathematician, which complicates things unnecessarily, I, among others, some of the works of the disciples as Bennett but somehow what came through them, was an excuse to hide the failure. Later I met one of Bennett's own students that were in force on the chaos created in the Prieuré assaulted and even Bennett himself. It made me wonder if the basic principles of the guiding principles of Gurdjieff had been properly treated or if the meaning of original intent had been transmitted in some way diluted by the values of the war. It was interesting to me that this student is highly unlikely that the discipline of Gurdjieff, who had never been admitted, but also noted that for the rest of his life, was felt in every topic under the sun in the local newspaper columns. He was also a talented singer / guitarist and free thinker, and perhaps his confrontation with Bennett was a two-way affair.

I have come to the conclusion that despite not really understand at that tender age, what it was, it has something like a shot through subliminal invisible. Even promoted Gurdjieff and did everything possible to let me know their circles of London and Paris. I was answering a call. I began to wonder if maybe Sufism was not part of the formation of the Christian Brothers who had taught me a lot. The Jesuits knew, had trained at the Universities ishmaeli in Alexandria and Cairo. Interestingly, Jewish and Hindu students in our school, I keep being told by them, totally at home in the Christian environment. Cookware, my first real appreciation of the courageous historical figures came through the oral stories told with abundant detail brought by our director Douglas Bader, the legless pilot, the boy the Dalai Lama and Tibet's legacy to our fertile minds regardless of their religious affinities

The Capital of Learning

London had the world on a plate. Their educational institutions offering every conceivable topic for free at any time of day or night. I was offered the opportunity to see what was the work of Gurdjieff. I did not know very good friends with any of the spokesmen for the bank from the circles of the Gurdjieff Society, I contacted. I thought I had perhaps lost their way and become introverted and defensive, but then the road was not for those who do not persevere, including me – and I did not pursue the subject. The culture could also have been at the center of this dark response to the existence a line of descent and there were many who undermines the legacy system itself. They were too ready to replicate with little provocation "Gurdjieff was a foreigner after all, and Asia where, who made his mark before the Second World War, when the world was a different place "I could almost hear some of them and think "what I had to say anyway? These observations have convinced me that in the mind after the public war, destruction of ego was itself an exercise of such weakening shooting himself in the foot. As society became increasingly competitive and aggressive, so the Most people thought the only way to survive was to attack as a defense. "It's too hard" – some would say and others with a flourish – "Ole boy old hat, old hat …" The collective ego seemed to be so deeply entrenched that it locks the focus to the concepts (if they were not fashionable), as seems the case of Beatles guru the Maharaji, the subsequent popular and unlikely Maharishee – Mr. Moon. They created their own fashion followers and some probably did not even know the slightest thing about the nature or quality of teaching. St. Teresa of Avila herself, a mystic of some organization struggling with the traumatic revelations led to his mind, refused to go south Spain, where large and powerful bureaucracy interfered with their work to the point of violence when her daughters were barred from entering the cloister, for reasons of fashion .. Santa Teresa, which is then processed were harangued before the enforcement authorities of the Church for not allowing these empty containers to wear the habit and sports around. It was not what it is and the Inquisition very close to ending his life and work. However, it demonstrates how the lessons that become popular can be subverted and abused by those who want the glory of the association, but did not work.

Pictures of a hidden past.

I took an aging but surprisingly alert Polish countess who participate in mystical new audience to see the film that Peter Brooke fact book Gurdjieff "Meetings With Remarkable Men." The joy and meticulous attention to detail surprising that the director put into it was immediately obvious and dance scenes, raised any person with any degree of sensitivity, well above ground level. She was not so impressed more or less, he said, but his mind was already made up on new and more relevant mystical struck me as a kind exposure to modern Rosicrucian courses – directly from California. It was collected by the apparent dismissal, his eyes ran to the side. It was too late to change their course, admits. She had just introduced me to the Chancellor of the University for Peace in Costa Rica, which also turned out to be a former president of the nation itself and what it was, it seemed to work pretty well. The Crimson Princess Gagarin of Armenia was also charged largely a good job, although I have the impression that it lacked Gurdjieff the rails could have been so easy to target these women. I was coming through the reaction times and understood many painfully, that Gurdjieff was probably the only one who could put her in all things. To satisfy my search did not match, I would have had to devote all my life fragmented the resettlement of the famous "Prieure -. a vain and improbable given many brilliant mind had gone to them for self-discovery and found the ability to influence social change. Much had been happening in Europe in the twenties and this exposure to Eastern mysticism had found the root of many homes. Rudolph Steiner, confidant of Hitler and the mystical architect had impressed the social upper classes with his peculiar, a dome, magical. centers Gurdjieff had experienced with venues for this, but then take the founder's interest in altering consciousness is not surprising. Fashion can be also some contribution to the overwhelming interest in the call Sufi of the time. However, in the heart of it, there was a way and not one Gurdjieff himself had invented. He had put his own unique interpretation to aspects of it and, no doubt, that was based on a sound understanding of the needs of the human psyche.

I had noted that the circle had been raised by Gurdjieff himself was not so far from London, and had Bennett took the disciple to the end of his life. The experiment appears to have ended quietly Idris Shah -. popular Sufi writer had apparently taken around applications for Bennett and dismantled the place of property speculation reasons. What happened next is unclear. Gurdjieff sure would not have been surprised but the legacy of the great man – the physical evidence at least, he was gone, including one of the architectural experiments in the areas that seemed to induce a state altered mind. From a historical standpoint, the loss of the Prieure seemed to be an act of municipal and ultimately national neglect. But I was beginning to suspect that deep within the followers of society well versed and developed spiritually kept secret memory and work alive despite the vicissitudes from one era to another, degeneration.

I got the same kind of reaction other disciple depressing important Saltzmann lady of Paris "Preure" on the phone whose voice betrayed a desperation that suggests the impossibility of leaving a legacy. I began to have doubts however, about the loss of this valuable survival I saw Peter Brooke display effort and indicated the presence of actors from the likes of Terence Stamp in the cast. The ritual dance performances were as hypnotic as it was wait and it was not difficult to understand that despite the lack of presence, the road was there and many of his followers, ensconced as Templar, within the structure of corporate management.

It was difficult to understand however, how something as important as this, which had touched the world energy and intellectual freedom in their figures as Isadora Duncan and Lenin, would have been allowed to lose their roots so easily. Isadora, who revolutionized the dance stage and rocked by the same means the heart of the hypocritical society of his time, became a legend. Again, while there appears to be recognized publicly, Lenin himself was of the same source and its political momentum proved to be of the magnitude and sharpness hopes for better or for worse. Stalin had vandalized the work under false documents and call the blessing of the great revolutionary, international recognition would have been of a different order. On the dark side, the tragic death of New Zealand writer Katherine Mansfield at the Prieuré and whose brief encounter with Gurdjieff had, it seemed that the deeply disturbed, is another indicator about the strong influence of the mystical in those who had sought his awakening and confused with their support. Strange words indeed, but then Gurdjieff himself was a very peculiar man – a man who had found the exact dimensions of their own spiritual needs and could not stop looking down on the cluttered mess neighbor. He called them (zombies), for lack of a better word, if only in the context of the dream state, reasoned, most people in mainly It is not difficult to understand what is meant when we try to talk honestly with most products today tangled, meaningless society. contemporary events speak for themselves as traders sell their food products studied comfortable and presentations designed to make consumers dancing to his incitements purpose. gadjet Gadjet after losing the habit of curiosity and humanity seems to push farther and farther from reality and the survival of a purpose. This philosophy the destruction of the sense of challenge, calculated to undermine the will to survive is certainly behind the fall in social values, modern diseases and zero bank balances. Crimes against family and friends – against the guardian and adviser, in a historical and lacking unknown reason, it is only the tip of an iceberg threatens to deteriorate further. The other side however, shows that the public alarm begins to recognize, finally, that the lack of self-imposed discipline and sense of direction is at the root of evil.

The power of words.

"Wake up and take notice" – is the message that came through of those who listened attentively, though the way of listening and acting was not so easy to implement as most of the applicants knowledge is expected to be. "Show Me How" is not the same as "show me how, master" The need to empty before the tutor is only a means for improvement of the hearing – that the loss of ego is always awkward to take it all for himself. Gurdjieff were part of his time, but it takes very little to begin to understand that he took a very long time and a great personal distress in real terms, to start getting to the point of psychological findings you want to take to the West. His mission had little to do with political manifestos and more than an attempt to unlock the power of "being" of humanity. This attempt became his goal in life as a teacher, rather than a spread of a contemplative element. The second course was chosen by some of his colleagues in the early and travel companions had chosen to be at peace with themselves instead of walking down the road Gurdjieff. For them, therefore, contemplation is the middle and an end.

Gurdjieff had with the words because he was more interested in the sounds inherent in the words themselves. Thus came into the language as an instrument of transfer thought as an instrument of self-deception. It has been said many times that the tongue from blocking the ability of the mind to think for himself. It is also said that understanding from keeping the words out of the thinking process. Perhaps just as anxious people draw words in long strings to the point of a monologue, by what the mind, conscious of the silence about it is argued with the sound of words unspoken in an attempt to take the easy path – the path of apathy and self-indulgence. The Sufism has a mortal enemy – the ego. Real knowledge is certainly only makes sense in terms of personal chemistry and the means to interpret? If you do not cause change, certainly can not be knowledge to the extent that the receiver is at stake? The implementation has to be the end result, but can be falsely attributed by a false ego, eager to misunderstand and hit continue. So how to differentiate? These concepts are clearly described by Gurdjieff, but towards the end of his life, he knew he had very little time to waste on their own disciples had more time to take the job. His trilogy satirical tales Beelzebub to his Grandson "must be seen in this context. The symbolism as one might expect, plays an important role in his narrative, seemingly without meaning. It is significant is a matter of focus and the process by which – El Camino.

Existing and emerging works attempt to bring the powerful voice of the soul of Gurdjieff few who have in their hearts to stop and listen. There are aspects of his teachings and techniques however, can be clearly written to express their thoughts about essential preparation for self-realization. One of the terms he used often with great fun was "Kunderbuffer" or something very similar. Take an immediate sense of childhood and the comfort of the shock. This understanding was built on the barricade to the understanding and self-realization that had been placed in mind (as a program) for (anyone) and had to be a short or eliminated to achieve the objective understanding. This one element alone, with many of his interesting concepts deserves a great deal of thought Gurdjieff, but not taken too seriously in their attempts to get your very personal message. The humor, cynicism, the youthful intransigence – all played a role, but within that smokescreen, a very high soul tried to make a man in his image, if only by those who could communicate and align quickly. Gurdjieff knew throughout the outcome of his material when he saw it and those who said they could not bear the intensity of his gaze, was looking for knowledge that perhaps had not been willing to ask.
