Yoga Class Considerations

Please arrive early. Getting to the class about 5-10 minutes early can help solve in. Take time, sit or lie down breathing and get centered.

Please do not eat before class. If you practice yoga on a full stomach, you might experience cramps, nausea, heartburn or vomiting. You will be grateful.

Please let the teacher know about any injury or illness. I have had many students I say after several months of practice, "Oh, I have fibromyalgia or arthritis, etc." It is very important that the teacher knows these things so necessary adjustments can be do.

Create an intention, a word or phrase and stay with him for several deep breaths to ground. Life gives us what we so set A clear goal every day.

Please turn off pagers and / or cell phones. And if you're expecting an important call, at least, courtesy to explain to the class. They understand if someone in your family is sick, etc, and appreciate the sharing.

Please shut up. Many people come to yoga as a way out, a sense of community, which is great. However, there is nothing worse than trying to work deep in meditation or in a pose that the people next to the room chat. Please respect the class enough to save for an appropriate time.

Whatever you do, listen to your body. I know people get tired of hearing this. However, it is important. No pushing. Instead of trying to delve deeper into a pose, do what you can effortlessly. When I took over from Rodney Yee's class year in Toronto expressed the importance of this. "I do not have to go too far into it (any action), the creation of your breathing space." My teacher used to say: "Go to your advantage and not the past." Good advice!

If there is pain, there is something wrong. They know that there is a definite difference between hard work, discomfort and pain. Work with your body and not his ego, which is easier said than done, even the most seasoned professional.

Do not be discouraged if your body does not move in the same way your neighbor does. They know that every one of us is unique, each with different life experiences and that all life experiences are conducted in a in the body. With time you will release another level of exploitation, however, if your mind is in a situation of competition.

Keep expectations realistic. If during uttanasana (Standing Forward bend) your hands are floating above the knees do not expect to touch the ground after a 6-week class yoga. The change and transition will take time and yet with time (and sometimes lots of patience), your body changes. Understanding these changes can take years in some people.
